What is Prostate Cancer?

Cancer that develops in the prostate gland is called prostate cancer. The prostate is a walnut-size gland found in men, located below the bladder and next to the rectum. The prostate gland creates and stores seminal fluid that helps to make and transport semen. When cells in the prostate grow above the limit, then it develops into cancer.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in men. The prostate size may increase with the increase in age. During mid-age, it is usually walnut-sized, but it may grow in men above 65 years. However, it may affect mid-age men also due to family history or through large intake of fats. High-risk prostate cancer is considered a deadly disease as it is aggressive and spreads quickly outside the prostate gland.

What are the symptoms of prostate cancer?

According to the best prostate cancer doctor in Lucknow, Dr Rahul Yadav, following are the common symptoms of prostate cancer.

  1. Painful Urination
  2. Frequent urine extraction during night
  3. Decreased force while urinating
  4. Blood discharge in urine
  5. Back pain
  6. Pelvis pain
  7. Hip pain
  8. Blood in the semen
  9. Erectile dysfunction
  10. Weight loss

Prostate symptoms mainly arise during winter due to less discharge of water from sweating and more through urinating. These lead to several urinal symptoms mentioned above.

When to consult a doctor?

The trouble caused while urinating is the first warning sign of prostate cancer. A person must consult a prostate cancer specialist while facing urination problems or any other symptom of worry.

When a person does not have any symptoms but is over 45 years and has a family history of prostate cancer, he is advised to check up with the doctor every once a year regularly.

How is prostate cancer treated?

Dr Rahul Yadav states the following common types of treatment for prostate cancer:

  • Medicinal treatment:

In the initial stages, it can be cured through medicines. Medicines help in healing the cause of urinal trouble and decrease the size of the prostate gland.

  • Endoscopic surgery:

If the cancer is not controlled through medicine, the patient must undergo surgery like endoscopic surgery. During the surgery, the doctor inserts a long and flexible tube consisting of a light and lens through the tip of the penis. It helps in removing the blockage tissues in the prostate gland.

  • Laser surgery:

Another effective method recommended to cure prostate cancer is laser surgery. Laser surgery cures BPH (Benign prostatic hyperplasia) and is executed without any incision made on the body. The doctor inserts a fibre-optic scope through the tip of the penis and then through the urethra. This scope releases the prostate cells that cause urinal trouble.

What are the risks of undergoing prostate surgery?

A prostate surgery comes with some general health risks like:

  1. Blood clots
  2. Infection in pelvis
  3. Bleeding
  4. Infection leading to fever, swelling, back pain, chills, etc.
  5. Aesthesia reaction on the skin

These are short-term risks and can be cured with proper medications in a few days. However, it is advised to consult the best prostate cancer doctors near you.
